About Melissa

Melissa M. Jones, Licensed Clinical Psychotherapist

I was born and raised in Texas until I was 16, at which time my family moved to Kansas. I was first drawn to the field of psychology my sophomore year in high school, finding myself seeking out classes to learn more at every opportunity. I completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology from the University of Missouri-Columbia. I received my Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from Avila University with a Certificate in Child and Adolescent Counseling, going on to become a Licensed Clinical Psychotherapist.

I have experience in several settings, including five years working in an academic setting serving children with special needs (primarily on the Autism spectrum) and severe behavior disorders, during which time I implemented Applied Behavior Analysis behavior plans, assisted in providing alternative services, and provided academic development in accordance with the children’s specialized IEP’s. I also have experience working within an inpatient setting providing brief therapy to adults with serious and persistent mental illnesses.

I have been working as an individual therapist since January 2013. Along with individual therapy, I have performed a number of psychological and intellectual evaluations, including Autism Spectrum Disorder evaluations. While psychological evaluations are not a part of my current practice, I continue to draw on this knowledge to help best serve my clients. My primary methods for therapy include Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Supportive Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Cognitive Behavior Therapy (CBT).
